Mental Health Awareness 💚

May Is Mental Health Awareness Month!

Mental Health should be addressed year round- May is just a time to help broadcast & build the narrative around hope & resilience in the Mental Health Community.

"Depression, also known as clinical depression or major depressive disorder, is a mood disorder that causes intense sadness lasting at least two weeks or more. It can interfere with a person’s ability to function and perform daily tasks. Treatment options include psychotherapy, medication and brain stimulation therapy.

Depression is a common disorder. About 17.7 million American adults had at least one major depressive episode in 2018, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, or SAMHSA. It affects 264 million people and is a leading cause of disability worldwide, according to the World Health Organization. More than 46 million Americans live with mental illness. Clinical depression is more than just being sad about the death of a loved one, being in a bad mood or being upset about a lost relationship. If left untreated it can cause people to lose sleep, stop eating or lose their jobs." NYU has recently done a study, showing that Depression shows up and looks differently in Black Women.

Unfortunately, there has been a disparity in access to mental health resources, that has affected the minds of generations- taking our Mental Health seriously and supporting one another is crucial to our healing as a people & for the healing of future generations.

We all have mental health & all of our minds require time & attention to achieve mental wellness. Our Mental Health is no different than our Physical Health, and just how we do things to stay physically fit on a daily basis- it's important to stay proactive and do things to stay mentally "fit" as well. Explore the below tips & resources below!
